Happy Monday Church!

I know it has been a couple of weeks since I last blogged, but I have really great excuses - First, it was Memorial Day and I thought it best to take the week. Second, I was working on a paper and it completely slipped my mind. So, see, great excuses! ;)

Well, as the title suggests, let me talk a moment about Revitalization and Crossroads Baptist Church.

Let's all pull up a chair and get real - we all know that CBC has gone through some hard years and some hard issues and situations. Because of that, we have been on a steady course of decline for a good while now (and COVID isn't going to help that). We have very few children and very few visitors on a consistent basis. Now, there are many reasons for this; everything from being a smaller church to the fact that more and more folks are moving away from being "cultural/nominal" Christians to being what they truly are: Nones. Non-Christians. Never converted in the first place.

And it's not just us, it's all over in every Christian denomination. This past week, Christianity Today reported that our own denomination (the Southern Baptist Convention) reported its lowest number of members/attenders in over 100 years! You can read all of the details here. It's heartbreaking to think about - but it's also a challenge to us to properly live the Great Commission. But, I digress, back to CBC...

Due to our own decline, I have been in constant conversation and contact with a pastor friend of mine from Mobile, AL. His name is Stan Givens and he and his son Josh work with small churches like ours to help in revitalization efforts. This next week (6/11-14/2020) Stan and Josh will be joining us to see how they can help us as we try to redouble our efforts to see CBC grow, thrive, and move forward. Their ministry is called 6.14 Ministries and they have years of experience not only pastoring small churches like ours, but helping them with revitalization efforts.

This isn't a time to be worried or concerned. Frankly, I'm excited! I love our little church! I love you. I want to see our little church thrive, share the Gospel, and know that it will be doing the same in 50 years, 100 years, and 200 years after I'm dead and gone. I'm sure you all feel the same way. I want to see us reach families with children. I want to see us build true community, practice hospitality, bear one anothers burdens, and encourage one another towards holiness. Stan and Josh are great guys! Stan is also going to be helping us kick off our 1 Peter sermon series as well as lead us in a few songs of worship, so be sure to come out and hear great preaching, better singing than what I can do, and let's worship the Lord together and get ready to get to work!

For the Glory of God, for the Gospel, and for the kingdom of God,

Bro. Nick
